Honours' Killing (Karo-Kari) in Sindh and Balochistan
Honour's Killing (Karo-Kari) is a famous brutal killing practice and tradition in Sindh and Balochistan provinces/states of Pakistan. Some known or unknown persons kill those lovers who want, wish or would have been engaged in love marriage or love affair. Sometimes Jirgah (collective and joint decision or the heads of both tribes involved from girlfriend and boyfriend) issued such orders to kill both girl and boy on having married on their own wish without parents' or tribal heads wish. Thousands of loving pairs have been killed during last ten years due to this brutal and cruel illegal, terrible, dreadful, shocking and horrible tradition. Sindh Assembly has passed a resolution against this tribal tradition a few years ago. But many cases have been reported by Sindhi print media here in Sindh on this issue. I appeal and complain that this issue should also be now finished and resolved and let the evil be bud from its root this year. I am briefing the report of only three months on this issue during last years here as following.
The Urdu magazine of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), Monthly Jehd-e-Haq, December 2009 issue, published, "Seven persons were killed/murdered on charge and allegation of Karo-Kari including four women and three men. Four were from Sindh Province while three were from Balochistan. Three cases were reported by Daily Intikhab (Newspaper) and four were reported by their correspondent Shakir Jamali."
In June 2010, same Monthly magazine of HRCP, published, "Fifty three persons were killed/murdered in charge and allegation of Karo-Kari including thirty women and twenty three men. Most of them were from Sindh except a few from Balochistan. Most of them were reported by two Sindhi Daily Newspapers "Kawish" and "Ibrat". Only three cases were reported by their correspondent namely "Muhammad Farooq".
In October 2010, the same magazine of HRCP "Jehd-e-Haq" published, "Twenty two persons were killed/murdered in charge/allegation of Karo-Kari including fourteen women and eight men. All cases were reported by Dail Kawish Hyderabad Sindh. All were belonged to Sindh including Kashmore."
Sindh and Balochistan government should have to decide now to stop such reports in print media because electronic media is going very fast and it is providing latest news alerts, breaking news and latest news. There is no need of such reports from print media in this fast and quick developing electronic media. More over I think that such reports in print media are related to number game or name matching system to threaten and harass the readers of print media. Further steps might be taken by the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari.
